I have a Roland PR 1011 dot matrix printer, with a Xetec Super Graphix Jr.
interface. I am using GEOS 2.0, and cannot find a compatible printer driver.
Can anyone suggest a compatible driver or provide me enough info for me to
create my own driver with PRNPCH in LIB 13?

Steve,
I don't have a Roland printer to test this on, but I did a little research.
I can't find any specific reference anywhere in GEOS documentation to the
Roland printer. I did, though, find a printer module for CAD in LIB 12 that
supports Epson, Panasonic, and Roland. This module is, of course, of no use to
you for GEOS, but it's existance suggests that the Roland may be an Epson
compatible printer. I'd try the Epson MX and FX printer drivers, and see if
either of these give acceptable results.
Let me know how it works. Also, if anyone here has experience using a
Roland PR1011 with GEOS, I hope they'll respond to your message. <ed>

Thanks for the research effort, Ed. I am able to get the Epson FX-80 module to
work with the Roland, but the graphics don't produce circles (they come out as
elipses).
I found a note in the GEOS book explaining that NLQ only works if the text is
in Commodore 10 Pt. font, so I guess that explains why NLQ wasn't working for
me.
I would still appreciate someone helping me to use PRNPCH.BIN to modify the
EPSON FX-80 module to work more specifically with the Roland, if possible.

Hi Steve:
I think the Roland is Epson-compatible. Try the FX driver and a transparent
interface.

Hi!
It's been awhile since I was last able to log on. Missed being active
online.
I could really use anyone's suggestions on which PRINT software program
to purchase (i.e. PRINTSHOP or PRINTMASTER PLUS.)
Thanx...
Wil

Wil,
Welcome back! I'm partial to GEOS myself, but your choice may be largely
determined by what printer you're using. Obviously, the best graphics program
in the world is kind of useless if it doesn't support your printer.
So, wadda ya got? <grin>

Ed,
I have a STAR NL-10 connected to a XECTEC SUPER GRAPHICS interface. I
currently have GEOS 1.3 & I'm considering upgrading to 2.0. Do you mean GEOS
itself or GEOPUBLISH? I've used both GEOPAINT & GEOWRITE & received
satisfactory results with the above combination. Any further feedback will be
greatly appreciated.
Thanx...

Wil,
geoPublish is certainly the premier GEOS product for putting images on
paper, but it may be that geoPaint would do everything you want. Since you've
already used GEOS successfully with your printer/interface, that's a point in
its' favor. I'm not sure about using the PrintShop or PrintMaster programs
with that combination, so, if someone else on the forum is, I hope they'll
chime in. We have, in our LIB 13, Graphic Storm, by Joe Buckley, under the
filename GRSTRM.BIN. This GEOS program can convert Doodle, 8k HiRes, PrintShop
(both sides), PrintMaster, and Newsroom graphics to a GEOS format. If you do
decide to take a look at it, note that it's an ARC file, and will need to be
extracted before you can convert it. (All our GEOS files are now either ARC or
SDA format.)
In any case, I'm not sure that geoPaint or Publish is what you want. I am
saying you need to be sure that whatever you do decide on supports your
printer. Once that's setted, you can pick the product with the features you
want.
You will note, I'm sure, that I still haven't answered your initial
question; Which is the best Print program to buy. I'll admit I haven't used
any but geoPaint and Publish, so I can't compare. We do, I'm sure, have users
of most of the popular ones on the forum here, and I hope they'll let us know
what it is that they like about the ones that they use.

Thanks for bringing up the matter concernin compatibility between
software/hardwar.
I owned the Atari version of THE PRINTSHOP & the manual recommended the
STAR line of printers for better results. However, I don't know if this holds
true for the COMMODORE version.
You say that geopaint could handle the job, but will it do everything that
the other programs will? i.e. banners, etc.
Once again...
thanx...

Wil,
Banners? Those very large, multiple-page things, printed sideways? No, as
far as I know, there's nothing for GEOS that can do that. Hmmm, BSW is missing
a bet, there *would* be a market for, uh, geoBanner!

Ed,
Yup, banners. Hope BSW comes up with a program to handle that; I really
would prefer to stick to GEOS for all of my printing needs.
Thanx...
